🌈 Weathering the season?

There have been so many crazy spring storms ⛈️happening around us over the last few weeks. Great for the plants (and cicadas!), but we’ve also had a lot of flooding and tornado scares. 🌪️ Twice this week we’ve been woken up in the middle of the night by storms or sirens.

But this gorgeous rainbow moment made my day and reminded me that there is peace and beauty at the end of every storm. We will get through it!

Moms - do you SOLO adventure with your kids?

The reasons to adventure solo are as diverse as the women who undertake them. Maybe you’re a single mom. Or maybe you’re a stay-at-home mom who just needs out of the house? Maybe you’re a military spouse whose partner is away, or a working mom with a much more flexible schedule than your partner. Maybe your partner just isn’t that into the outdoors.

Whatever the motivation, solo mom adventuring holds the potential to be a transformative experience for both you and your kids. Yes, it’s challenging, but it’s also empowering!

I was inspired to start solo adventuring with my kids after getting to know RWMC Executive Team member Nicole @coleyraeh through her IG feed. And it’s changed our life (for the good!).

My husband’s work schedule doesn’t give him a ton of time off, and we like to do different things when we’re together as a family. Solo mom adventuring with the kids has given me the chance to do things he’s not that interested in (e.g. yurt camping or driving 14 hours to play on the beach for the day) and explore “my way.”

It’s been good for me, good for the kids, and good for our marriage! Who knew?

“I think of trying new things on outdoor adventures as “leveling up.” Each time we mastered an activity such as going to the playground or hiking an extra half-mile, we beat a level.

My confidence in myself (as both a parent and as an adventurer) grew with each level and outing. My faith in my kids grew, once I saw how they could adapt and handle our adventures.

With each new level accomplished, I would think about what it would make sense for the next level to be and begin working on that. And believe me, it takes a bit of work, planning and preparation before I was ready to tackle each new level.”
